Founded in 1936, Embarcadero Federal Credit Union was the first credit union to serve the San Francisco Bay Area. We were originally created to serve federal employees in San Francisco and provide them with access to exceptional service, lower rate loans and higher return on savings than they could find in public institutions.
We have since broadened our focus to serve health care organizations, non-profits and local San Francisco businesses.

Federal employees - Our first member group was the U.S. Customs agency where we built the first office onsite at the Customs House. This historic building was symbolic for us in that it was one of the few that survived the 1906 earthquake. We too, have stood the test of time and continue to serve other federal agencies such as Homeland Security and the Forest Service.
Medical professionals - In 1986 we expanded our focus when we merged with two medical credit unions. This allowed us to bring the benefits of membership to the employees of California Pacific Medical Centers and St. Francis Memorial Hospital who gained credit union access with on-site branches and ATMs.
Non-profit organizations - We further expanded our reach to serve non-profit organizations, in the San Francisco area. Non-profits find that through credit union membership they can limit expenses and increase their cash for the causes that they serve. Organizations like Forests Forever and Blood Centers of the Pacific are some of our valued members.
San Francisco businesses - As we near 70 years in business we are extending our membership to local San Francisco business owners. Business owners will benefit from our Business Accounts and Merchant Services.
